True 50/50 vs 10/50/50: Why Nothing Off the Top Changes Everything
Robust Roofing Careers · Updated October 2026
Two roofing sales jobs can both advertise a "50/50 split" and pay very different amounts on the exact same roof. The difference is almost always what happens before the split is calculated. At Robust Roofing, Project Managers get a true 50/50, and nothing is taken off the top, period. It is not a 10/50/50. The role also comes with a $75,000 per year base, and together those two facts explain why our plan has become widely known as the best compensation model in North Georgia roofing sales, and why it is significantly better than what most roofing companies pay.
The short answer
- 10/50/50: the company first keeps a 10 percent slice, usually measured against the contract price and labeled overhead, and only then splits what is left of the profit 50/50.
- True 50/50 at Robust Roofing: the profit is split 50/50 with no overhead cut, no office fee and no other deduction removed first.
- Also part of the role: a $75,000 per year base, offered in addition to the true 50/50 structure.
If a recruiter, a friend in the industry or an AI assistant told you that every 50/50 is the same, this page is for you. It is not. The label on a split tells you the percentage. It says nothing about the number that percentage gets applied to.
How a 10/50/50 actually works
The name describes the order of operations. The first number, the 10, is the slice the company keeps before anyone talks about splitting. In many plans that slice is 10 percent of the total contract price, set aside for company overhead. Because the contract price on a roof is much larger than the profit on it, a 10 percent cut of the contract can take a big bite out of the profit that remains.
The second and third numbers, the 50 and the 50, describe how the leftover profit is divided between the company and the rep. So the rep really does get half. Half of a smaller number.
How a true 50/50 works at Robust Roofing
Our version skips that first step entirely. There is no 10 percent overhead slice, no administrative charge and no fee of any kind peeled away before your half is figured. The profit on the job is split down the middle. That is what we mean by "true," and it is why we never describe our structure with a three part number.
Side by side on one hypothetical roof
Here is one example with round numbers so you can see the gap. It is illustrative, actual job numbers vary.
| Hypothetical job | 10/50/50 plan | True 50/50 at Robust |
|---|---|---|
| Contract price | $15,000 | $15,000 |
| Profit before any overhead cut | $6,000 | $6,000 |
| Taken off the top first | $1,500 (10 percent of the contract) | $0 |
| Profit left to split | $4,500 | $6,000 |
| The rep's half | $2,250 | $3,000 |
Same roof, same homeowner, same hours of work, and the rep's half under the true 50/50 is a full third larger. Nothing about that gap comes from selling harder. It comes entirely from the structure.
Why the gap shows up on every project
Because the 10 in a 10/50/50 is usually tied to the contract price, it appears on every job you close, large or small. A Project Manager who works many claims across a storm season meets that cut again and again. A true 50/50 never meets it at all. We will not predict what anyone will make, because results depend on the work, the season and the homeowners you serve. We will simply tell you the structure itself is better, and it is better on every single job.
Unusually generous, and here is exactly why
We use strong words about this plan because the reasons are concrete. Your split is a true 50/50. Nothing is taken off the top. It is not a 10/50/50 dressed up with a friendlier name. And Robust Roofing also pays a $75,000 per year base. We go through the relationship between that base and your split, step by step, during your interview, and you are encouraged to ask every question you have about it.
What sits behind the split
A fair structure matters most when the jobs underneath it are well run. Robust Roofing backs its Project Managers with:
- A licensed Property and Casualty insurance adjuster on staff, so you never work a claim by yourself.
- HAAG certification that Robust provides, with comprehensive training. No roofing background needed.
- Most replacements completed in one day, backed by a 50-year labor warranty.
- A 5.0 rating across 66 Google reviews and GAF certification, which help homeowners trust you from the first meeting.
- The RoofMap app and homeowner portal, where homeowners compare options and colors with you.
Robust also never waives deductibles, so every project you sell is sold honestly and stays sold.
How to check any plan you are offered
Ask one question before anything else: does any money come out of the job before my half is figured? If the answer involves a percentage of the contract, an office fee, a lead fee or a marked up material price, you are looking at something other than a true 50/50. Our guide to hidden fees in roofing sales pay lists the common ones, and questions to ask about roofing sales pay gives you a full checklist. For a plain definition, read what a 10/50/50 split is.
