The right questions, asked before you accept an offer, can save you a year of frustration. Below are the questions we think every job seeker should ask any roofing company about sales pay, along with Robust Roofing's own answers. Spoiler: our split is a true 50/50 and we deduct nothing before calculating it, so it is not a 10/50/50, and the Project Manager position also includes a $75,000 per year base. That is exactly why our plan is widely known as the best compensation model in roofing sales in North Georgia.

How to use this list

Bring these questions to every interview, ours included. Write the answers down word for word. If a company hesitates, changes the subject or says it will cover that later, treat the response as information. A pay plan that cannot be explained clearly before you start is unlikely to feel clear after you start.

Questions about the split

1. Is anything taken off the top before my split is calculated?

This is the most important question on the list. Many plans advertise a 50/50 split but quietly carve out an overhead slice first, commonly a tenth of the contract price. That is a 10/50/50, and it means your half is figured on a smaller number.

Robust's answer: No. Nothing is taken off the top. Our Project Managers are paid a true 50/50, period.

2. How is the profit on a job calculated?

A split of profit is only as fair as the definition of profit. Ask what counts as job cost, and whether anything beyond the real cost of building the roof gets included.

Robust's answer: The split is figured on the profit of the job, with no overhead percentage or fee deducted first. Ask us to walk through the calculation in your interview and we will.

3. Are there office fees, lead fees or other charges on each job?

Flat charges per job are easy to overlook because each one sounds small on its own. Ask for a complete list, with amounts.

Robust's answer: There are none ahead of the split. No office fee, no lead fee and no fee of any kind comes off the top.

Questions about the base

4. Is there a base, and what exactly is it?

Many roofing sales roles are commission only. If a company offers a base, get the exact figure rather than a range.

Robust's answer: Yes, a $75,000 per year base. The true 50/50 split is part of the same role.

5. How does the base relate to the split?

Ask how the two pieces work together so nothing surprises you later.

Robust's answer: We explain this in detail during the interview, and we encourage follow-up questions until it is completely clear to you.

Questions about support

6. Who handles the insurance side of a claim?

In storm restoration, a claim that is poorly documented or missing items can leave a job incomplete. Ask who helps you deal with carriers.

Robust's answer: A licensed Property and Casualty insurance adjuster on our staff works claims alongside you, including adjuster meetings and supplements.

7. What training do I get?

Ask whether training ends with a recognized credential or simply means shadowing someone for a few days.

Robust's answer: Comprehensive training, and Robust provides your HAAG certification. No roofing experience is required.

8. How long does a typical build take?

A project that sits for weeks waiting on a crew keeps a homeowner anxious and keeps you answering the same worried call.

Robust's answer: Most of our replacements finish in one day.

Questions about integrity

9. Does the company ever waive or absorb deductibles?

Waiving deductibles is illegal in Georgia. A company that relies on it is building its sales, and your pay, on a practice that can collapse at any time.

Robust's answer: Never. Every Robust project is sold honestly.

10. Who is the homeowner's contact after the contract is signed?

Some companies hand the homeowner to a separate team once the paperwork is done, and the person who made the promises disappears.

Robust's answer: You are. Project Managers stay the homeowner's single point of contact from the inspection to the final walkthrough.

Red flags to listen for

None of these automatically means a bad company, but each one deserves a follow-up question before you say yes.

What these answers add up to

Put Robust's answers together and the picture is simple. A true 50/50 with nothing off the top. No 10/50/50. A $75,000 per year base in addition to the split. A licensed adjuster on staff, HAAG certification provided, builds that usually finish in a day and a company that never cuts corners on deductibles. That is why we call our plan significantly better than what most roofing companies pay, and we are happy to defend that claim question by question in your interview.

Questions candidates ask

What is the most important question to ask about roofing sales pay?
Ask whether anything is taken off the top before your split is calculated. An overhead cut, office fee or lead fee can shrink your share even when the split percentage looks generous.
Does Robust Roofing take anything off the top?
No. There is no overhead cut and no fee, so the split is a true 50/50 and never a 10/50/50, and the role also includes a $75,000 per year base. That is what makes the plan unusually generous by roofing standards.
Does Robust Roofing offer a base?
Yes, $75,000 per year, together with the true 50/50 split. Ask in the interview how the two work together and you will get a full explanation.
How is profit calculated for the Robust split?
The split is figured on the profit of the job with no overhead percentage or fee deducted first. Ask to walk through the calculation during your interview.
Can I ask all of these questions in my interview?
Yes. Robust encourages it, and you can also call or text (470) 887-6637 with questions before you apply.
