The Two Warranties on Every Roof We Install

Every roof we install carries two warranties: our own 50-year labor warranty on the workmanship, and the manufacturer's limited warranty on the materials. They cover different things, they come from different companies, and knowing which is which saves you a long argument later. Here is how both work, in plain language.

Two warranties, two jobs

The manufacturer's limited warranty covers the shingles and the other components the manufacturer makes. If a shingle has a defect in how it was made and fails for that reason, that is the manufacturer's responsibility. The term and the conditions depend on the product line you choose, and the manufacturer's document spells them out. We do not state a number of years for it here because it is not ours to promise.

Our 50-year labor warranty covers the workmanship: how the roof was put on. If the materials are fine and the roof leaks because of how we installed it, that is on us, and we fix it. This is the warranty most homeowners actually use, because early roof problems usually come from installation, not from the shingles.

As a GAF certified contractor we install GAF shingles, and the manufacturer's coverage on those products comes with the roof. Our roof warranties guide goes deeper on the manufacturer side.

What the workmanship warranty covers

In plain terms, it covers leaks and failures caused by the way the roof was installed. That includes:

When we find a workmanship problem, we fix it. The scope of what is covered is in the written warranty document, which controls, and you receive it with your paperwork.

What it does not cover

A workmanship warranty is not insurance, and it is not a maintenance plan. Things it does not cover:

Storm damage. Hail, wind, fallen limbs, and tornado debris are insurance matters. If a storm hits your roof after we install it, call us for a free inspection and we will document the damage for a claim. The warranty is not the way to pay for it.

Damage from other trades. Satellite dish installers, solar crews, HVAC techs, and holiday light hangers all walk on roofs and drive screws through them. If someone else opens the roof, the leak at that spot is between you and them.

Neglect. Gutters that stay clogged until water backs up under the shingles, a limb that scrubs the same spot for three years, a vent that gets covered over in the attic. Our overhanging trees guide and gutter guide cover the basics of keeping a roof out of trouble.

Normal wear. Shingles lose granules and go brittle over decades. That is aging, not a defect, and our guide to how long roofs last in Georgia explains what to expect.

How a warranty claim works with us

Simple. Call us at (470) 887-6637 or message us through your RoofMap portal and tell us what you are seeing: a stain, a drip, a lifted shingle. We come out and look. If the cause is our workmanship, we fix our mistakes; that is the whole point of the warranty. If the cause is a storm, we document it for your claim. If it is a satellite screw or a clogged gutter, we tell you that and what it would cost to fix. Either way you get a straight answer with photos.

Your paperwork lives in the portal

Warranty documents get lost in drawers. Yours do not have to. The RoofMap portal keeps your signed agreement, your invoice, the photos from before and after the job, and the warranty paperwork in one place you can open from your phone. Registration and documentation are kept there, so years from now you know exactly where everything is.

Ventilation keeps the manufacturer's coverage valid

Shingle manufacturers require adequate attic ventilation as a condition of their coverage. A roof that cannot breathe cooks from underneath in a Georgia summer, the shingles age early, and the manufacturer can decline a claim on the grounds that the installation did not meet their requirements. That is why we correct ventilation while the roof is open rather than nailing new shingles over a starved attic. Our attic ventilation guide explains intake, exhaust, and the balance between them.

A warranty is only as good as the company behind it

A 50-year warranty is a promise about the next fifty years, and it is only worth what the company's next fifty years are worth. A crew with a magnetic sign and an out-of-state plate can print the same number on the same paper. What backs ours: we are local, we live and work in the North Atlanta metro and the North Georgia foothills, and we are at the same phone number after the storm season ends. We have more than ten years of experience in residential roofing. We hold a 5.0 rating across 66 Google reviews from homeowners who can tell you what it was like to call us back. And we give 50% of our profit to Gospel-centered ministries, which is a reason to keep the doors open that has nothing to do with the next hailstorm.

Questions to ask any roofer about their warranty

Ask these before you sign with anyone, including us:

The written document controls

Everything on this page is a plain-language summary. The warranty you receive with your paperwork is the document that governs what is covered, for how long, and how to make a claim. Read it, keep it in your portal, and call us if any line is unclear. If a roofer's warranty summary sounds better than the document they hand you, believe the document.

Start with a free inspection

Whether you are shopping for a new roof or wondering what the warranty on your current one actually says, our inspection is free, comes with photos, and ends with a straight answer. Call (470) 887-6637 or schedule your free inspection online.

How long is a roof replacement warranty?

Ask how many years a new roof warranty lasts and you probably expect one number, but every new roof runs on two clocks. The first is the workmanship warranty from the company that installed it, which covers how the roof was put on. Those terms vary widely from one roofer to the next, and some are short or only verbal. Ours is a 50-year labor warranty, in writing. The second is the manufacturer's limited warranty on the shingles and components, and its term and conditions depend on the product line, which is why we point you to the manufacturer's document instead of quoting a number. Both run from installation, and both are only as good as the paper you receive, so read them, keep them, and ask questions while the crew is still in your driveway.

What can void a roof warranty

Exclusions are not fine print to fear; they are the rules of the deal. Most problems come from a short list of things homeowners can see coming:

The written warranty lists the exclusions that apply to your roof, and it controls over any summary, including this one.

Selling a home with a warranty in place

A documented roof warranty is a selling point, because buyers, inspectors, and insurers all ask how old the roof is and who stands behind it. Whether coverage transfers, and what a new owner needs to do, is set by the written warranty documents, so ask us before you list and we will help you pull everything together from your RoofMap portal. Our new roof and home value guide covers the rest. With a 5.0 Google rating and more than ten years in North Georgia, we are not going anywhere.

Quick answers

What does the 50-year labor warranty cover?
Leaks and failures caused by how the roof was installed: flashing, nailing, valleys, penetrations, underlayment laps, starter and ridge courses. If the materials are fine and the roof leaks because of our workmanship, we fix it.
How long is the manufacturer's warranty on the shingles?
It depends on the product line you choose, and the manufacturer's written warranty states the term and conditions. We do not quote a number because it is the manufacturer's promise, not ours.
Does the warranty cover hail or wind damage?
No. Storm damage is an insurance matter. If a storm hits your roof after we install it, call us for a free inspection and we will document the damage for a claim.
How do I make a warranty claim?
Call (470) 887-6637 or message us through your RoofMap portal and tell us what you are seeing. We come out, find the cause, and fix it if it is our workmanship. If it is something else, we tell you that and what it would cost.
Can another contractor's work affect my warranty?
Yes. Leaks caused by other trades, such as satellite installers, solar crews, or HVAC technicians opening the roof, are not covered by the workmanship warranty. Ask anyone who needs to get on the roof to coordinate with us first.
Is the warranty transferable if I sell the house?
The written warranty document you receive with your paperwork controls that and every other term. Read it, keep it in your portal, and call us with any question about it.
How long is a new roof guaranteed?
Two terms apply to every roof we install. Our 50-year labor warranty covers the workmanship, meaning leaks and failures caused by how the roof was installed. The manufacturer's limited warranty covers the shingles and other components, and its term depends on the product line you choose. The written warranty documents you receive control the exact terms.
Do new roofs come with a warranty?
They should, and in writing. A new roof normally carries the shingle manufacturer's limited warranty on the materials, and a reputable roofer adds a workmanship warranty on the installation. How long that workmanship coverage lasts varies a great deal from one contractor to the next, so read it before you sign. Every Robust Roofing roof comes with our 50-year labor warranty plus the manufacturer's limited warranty.
What voids a roof warranty?
Common reasons include installation that does not meet the manufacturer's requirements, poor attic ventilation, new shingles nailed over old ones, other trades cutting into the roof, damage from pressure washing or heavy foot traffic, long-term neglect such as clogged gutters, and alterations nobody coordinated with the roofer. The exact exclusions are in the written warranty, which controls, so read that section before you need it.
Does pressure washing a roof void the warranty?
It can damage the roof, and damage you cause is not a defect the warranty pays for. High pressure strips granules and can lift or crack shingles, which is why shingle manufacturers generally warn against it. For the black algae streaks common on North Georgia roofs, ask us before anyone points a pressure washer at your shingles.
Do I need to register my roof warranty?
Some manufacturer warranties, especially enhanced ones, depend on registration with the manufacturer. Ask us whether your shingle product needs it. Your warranty paperwork and documentation are kept in your RoofMap portal, so you can find them years from now without digging through a drawer.
How do I know if my roof is still under warranty?
Start with the paperwork from the installation: the roofer's workmanship warranty and the manufacturer's warranty for the shingle line, both dated from installation. If we installed your roof, everything is in your RoofMap portal, or call (470) 887-6637. If another company installed it, the shingle manufacturer may be able to tell you whether a warranty was registered for your address.
Are manufacturer shingle warranties transferable?
Each manufacturer sets its own rules in the written warranty. Transfers often come with conditions, such as a limit on how many times coverage can transfer and a deadline to notify the manufacturer after the home sells, and the coverage that transfers can be reduced. Read the document for your product line, and call us if you need help finding it.
What does limited mean in a limited lifetime shingle warranty?
It means the coverage has conditions and limits spelled out in the document. Lifetime coverage is commonly full for an initial period and then prorated, so the manufacturer pays a shrinking share as the roof ages, and it covers manufacturing defects, not installation mistakes, storms, or normal wear. That is why the workmanship warranty matters, and why the written document controls.

What homeowners say

Gary Peterson★★★★★

“Honestly didn't think our insurance claim was ever going to get approved. It got denied at first and we were pretty frustrated. Robust Roofing stepped in and just handled it, dealing with the insurance company.”

Christian G.★★★★★

“I'm picky. I walked the property after they left and tried to find something wrong. Couldn't. Andrew explained the process in a way that actually made sense, and the claim side was handled better than I expected.”
