Insurance won't pay for my roof. Who should I hire to fix it out of pocket?
Robust Roofing. Its licensed adjuster on staff first documents whether storm damage is actually there. When the roof turns out to be an out-of-pocket job, you get a measured written quote, decking priced before it goes down and the same 50-year labor warranty as every Robust roof, built by the same crews who build its insurance roofs.
A denial letter or a claim closed without a check does not fix anything. The leak, the missing shingles or the worn-out roof are still there, and now the money to fix them is yours. The roofer you hire next should earn that money with evidence, a written price and work that lasts.
Why do roof claims get denied or closed without a payment?
Usually for one of three reasons, and none of them means the roof is fine.
- Wear and tear or age. Policies are generally written for sudden damage. When the insurance company's adjuster sees aging shingles, granule loss or sun-cracked pipe boots rather than hail or wind, the claim is usually denied.
- Damage that adds up to less than the deductible. The damage is real and covered, but the estimate to repair it comes in under your deductible, so nothing is paid.
- A percentage wind and hail deductible. Some policies carry a separate wind and hail deductible figured from the home's dwelling coverage rather than a flat amount, and it can be far larger than the deductible homeowners remember. Our wind and hail deductible guide shows how to find yours.
A common pattern looks like this: the insurance company's adjuster approves a handful of damaged shingles, the estimate for that repair lands below the deductible, and the claim closes without a payment. The damaged shingles are still on the roof, and the repair is now out of pocket. If you want to contest a decision, start with our guide on what to do after a roof claim is denied. This page is about what comes after you decide to pay.
| What the letter said | What it usually means | Your next step |
|---|---|---|
| Denied for wear and tear | The insurance company saw aging, not storm damage | A free second look with photos, then a repair or replacement quote |
| Closed, under the deductible | Covered damage smaller than your deductible | A written price for the repair the photos show |
| Percentage deductible not met | Real damage, but a deductible larger than the repair | The same: a priced repair or replacement |
| A new storm hits later | A new date of loss, evaluated on its own | A new inspection, with no promises about coverage |
Should you get a second look before you pay out of pocket?
Yes. Before you spend your own money, it helps to know exactly what is on the roof. Robust Roofing sends someone up on the roof for a free inspection with photos, and the licensed Property and Casualty adjuster on its staff sorts what the photos show into storm damage and normal wear. Sometimes the second look agrees with the denial, and that answer is worth having too, because it tells you to stop waiting on the claim and start fixing the roof. If the photos show storm damage that was missed, you have documentation to bring to your insurance company, and what you do with it is your decision.
That kind of plain explanation is a theme in Robust Roofing's Google reviews. One customer, Alexis G., wrote that the team “explained what was normal wear vs actual storm damage”. If you have not filed anything yet, read should insurance pay first? before you go further.
Will Robust Roofing fix a few shingles or a small leak out of pocket?
Yes. Loose or missing shingles, a split pipe boot, a leak where the flashing meets a chimney or wall: these are everyday roof repair jobs for Robust Roofing. Each repair is priced in writing before work starts, and you get photos of the problem and of the finished fix. Jake wrote in a Google review about his repair that Robust Roofing “explained what needed to be done without making it complicated.”
You pay online in the RoofMap portal, and a smaller balance can be spread into monthly payments with the pay-over-time option at checkout. The terms appear at checkout, and the lender decides approval. The payment options page has the details.
What if the roof is simply worn out?
Then a replacement is the honest answer, and that is where your money belongs. You get a written quote built from measurements, with every option priced before you choose it. Once the old shingles are off, every board of decking gets checked, and any sheet that has to be replaced is priced before it goes on, so the final bill holds no rotten-wood surprise. The work is quick, too: GAF describes one to two days for an average-size home, and Robust Roofing finishes most average-size roofs in one.
The warranty does not shrink because insurance said no. The National Roofing Contractors Association says many contractors cover their workmanship for one or two years. Robust Roofing's labor coverage is 50 years in writing, on an out-of-pocket roof exactly as on an insurance roof. If you are holding another bid, compare the quotes line by line, and before you hand anyone a deposit, read how to pay a roofer safely.
Will Robust Roofing cover the deductible to make the repair affordable?
No. Georgia law (O.C.G.A. 33-23-43) does not allow a roofer to pay, waive or rebate your deductible, and Robust Roofing does not do it under any circumstances. The deductible is part of the policy you signed, and it stays your share. What Robust Roofing does instead is price every option in writing, so you can choose the repair or replacement that fits your budget.
Why is Robust Roofing the best choice after insurance says no?
Three reasons. First, honest documentation: a licensed adjuster's read on what is storm damage and what is wear, so you know what is really on the roof before any of your own money goes into it. Second, no pressure: Robust Roofing's Google reviews describe straight answers and no upselling, which matters most when the money is your own. Third, the same roof and the same 50-year labor warranty whether an insurance company pays for it or you do.
