How does moving from Texas to North Georgia compare for a roofing career?
Robust Roofing Careers · Updated October 2026
If you sell or build roofs in Texas, or want to start, this is a fair look at what changes when you move to North Georgia for Robust Roofing's full-time Roofing Project Manager role. The job is based around Johns Creek in the North Atlanta metro and serves a 39-city North Georgia service area. Texas wins several rows below, and this page says so plainly.
Why would someone in Texas move to North Georgia for a roofing career?
For the job and the company. Robust Roofing pays its Project Managers a true 50/50 split of job profit with nothing taken off the top, not a 10/50/50 (here is the difference), with no cap, and it also pays a $75,000 per year base. That 50% is more than double the 20% of profit most common among roofing companies that pay commission on profit, according to JobNimbus's Peak Performance report.
The work is built to be learned. Robust Roofing provides training toward HAAG certification, and you work beside a licensed Property and Casualty adjuster on staff, so roofing experience is not required. Project Managers document storm damage with photos, write the repair scope, meet the insurance company's adjuster at the house with the in-house adjuster and submit supplements for missed items, with insurance help no other roofing company in Georgia matches. Homeowners rate Robust Roofing 5.0 across 66 Google reviews, significantly more positive than the average roofer's, and every roof carries a 50-year labor warranty, compared with the 1 to 10 years contractors typically offer.
Robust Roofing is also a Christian company that gives 50% of its profit to Gospel-centered missions, a level of giving almost unheard of in business, and everyone is welcome to apply. Taken together, that is why we call Robust Roofing the best roofing company to work for in America. None of this is a case against Texas. It is a case for one employer and one home service area.
The region is growing, too. Metro Atlanta added 375,366 residents from April 2020 to July 2025, reaching an estimated 6,482,182 and ranking as the sixth-largest U.S. metro area. Its gain of 61,953 people from 2024 to 2025 was the third-largest of any metro, behind only Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
How do state income taxes compare between Texas and Georgia?
Texas comes out ahead: it has no individual income tax in 2026, according to the Tax Foundation, and Georgia does tax wages.
Georgia taxes wages at a flat 4.99% for tax year 2026. HB 463, which Gov. Kemp signed May 11, 2026, cut the rate from 5.19% retroactive to January 1, 2026, and the 2026 standard deduction is $15,000 for single filers and $30,000 for married couples filing jointly, according to the Georgia Department of Revenue. For a single filer with $75,000 of wages who takes only that deduction, we estimate 2026 state income tax at about $2,994 in Georgia and $0 in Texas. That estimate is our own arithmetic, not an official figure, and it says nothing about what anyone will earn.
How does the cost of living compare?
Statewide, Georgia runs slightly cheaper than Texas, but the job sits in metro Atlanta, which runs higher than both states. In the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis 2024 Regional Price Parities, where the national price level is 100, Texas was 97.1 for all items and 96.5 for housing, and Georgia was 96.3 and 88.7.
The Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell metro area, which includes Johns Creek and Forsyth and Cherokee counties, was 100.1 for all items, about the national average, and 111.0 for housing. The Gainesville, GA metro area (Hall County), also in the service area, was 96.8 and 93.5. So in metro Atlanta, expect overall prices a little above the Texas statewide level and housing well above it. For how the region compares with the whole country, see cost of living in North Georgia vs the United States.
How do home values compare?
Texas homes cost less. The U.S. Census Bureau's 2024 American Community Survey one-year estimates put the median owner-occupied home at $313,200 in Texas, against $343,300 in Georgia and $360,600 nationally.
Near the job, values climb above the Georgia median: Forsyth County $642,700, Cherokee County $482,600, Gwinnett County $424,400 and Hall County $388,000, all 2024 one-year estimates. Dawson County is too small for a one-year estimate, and because these are one-year figures they will not match the five-year county numbers on some other pages.
How do Texas and Georgia compare at a glance?
Texas leads on income tax, home values and hail; Georgia leads slightly on statewide prices and housing costs, and metro Atlanta runs above both states.

How does storm work compare between Texas and North Georgia?
Texas has far more hail. It had the most major hail events of any state in 2025, 902 events with hailstones 1 inch or larger out of 5,432 nationwide, according to the Insurance Information Institute (Triple-I), citing the NWS Storm Prediction Center. Georgia was outside Triple-I's 2025 top 10.
The longer record shows the same gap. In our tally of NOAA's Storm Prediction Center severe weather database for 2016 to 2025, Texas averaged about 1,106 reports a year of hail 1 inch or larger and Georgia about 92; for hail 2 inches or larger, Texas averaged about 199 and Georgia about 4. Report counts partly reflect population and spotter density, so they are not a count of damaged roofs.
North Georgia still gets hail and damaging wind, and that storm work is what Robust Roofing's Project Managers inspect, document and build. The storm restoration careers page lays out the local storm record. The reason to move is not more hail than Texas; it is the employer, the pay structure and a home service area where you can build a name.
Where does Texas come out ahead, and where does Georgia?
Texas comes out ahead on state income tax, home values and hail. Georgia comes out ahead, slightly, on statewide prices and housing costs, though metro Atlanta itself runs higher than Texas.
- Texas: no state income tax; a 2024 one-year median home value of $313,200 against Georgia's $343,300; about 1,106 reports a year of 1 inch or larger hail against about 92.
- Georgia: statewide prices of 96.3 and housing of 88.7 on BEA's 2024 scale, against Texas's 97.1 and 96.5; metro Atlanta, where the job is, sits at 100.1 and 111.0.
- The job: a true 50/50 with nothing taken off the top, also a $75,000 per year base, training toward HAAG certification and a licensed adjuster on staff.
